Boat maintenance tips

If you are going out in the sea, most important thing for you and your vessel is the safety. When you are in water and some emergency arises it will take sometime for the help to come some times it take even more time than expected. It is best to take precautions and maintain your vessel in the best condition. Poorly maintained boats and vessels are bound to create problems when in water which can be dangerous as well.

The engine of your boat should be serviced at least once a year. Engine maintenance is necessary to keep it in a good working condition and increase the life of the engine. Ideally you should get it serviced as required by the company. As is your car batteries should be checked and topped up regularly. All the connections should be checked and cleaned. Have a tool box with every thing you important tool including spark plugs and cables.

Fuel lines should be checked regularly for choking and leakage. If there is a problem with the fuel line get it repaired as soon as possible. You will be going with a good quatity of fuel and faulty fuel line can be dangerous. Fuel filters get choked with use and they should be replaced when required.

Oil lubricates your engine and other moving parts; it decreases friction and increases their life. With time it looses its lubricating property and gets thicker. It should be checked and changed.

Propeller of a boat is lie wheels in a car. Sometimes fishing lines or other stuff gets stuck in the propeller, it can cause damage to the shaft or the body. Carrying an old propeller with you is a good idea. Hull of the vessel should be in a good shape with out any leakages. Check for scratches and dents. Make sure all the joints and connections are well secured. Your boat is the most important thing when in water, it needs a regular maintenance.
